Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf Massage

Do you want to feel footloose and fancy free again?

Look after your Feet — and your Feet will look after you!

IF YOUR FEET AIN'T 'ARF BEEN GIVING YOU GYP, you've come to the right place!

Truly the Rolls-Royce of all Foot Rubs, Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf Massage with Marma Therapy is a wonderful and preventative treatment that has been practised since Tutankhamun was in short pants!

You probably haven't heard much about it, but it's no less magical for all that.

Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf Massage with Marma Therapy is a beautiful, deeply relaxing health-care modality which balances the body, the mind and the spirit… through your feet!

There are 107 main Marma points in the body, 14 of them being in your lower legs and feet. Stimulating these important points can help relieve certain conditions around your body and improve your overall energy flow.

But at the heart of this treatment is the Kansa Vatki bronze bowl — a small three-metal bowl (or wand) that rebalances your body’s energy and the energy of your "doshas" (or Vata, Pitta and Kapha).

With 28 separate moves on each foot, this Kansa (bronze) bowl is the secret weapon in this technique. With it, your lower limbs are comprehensively massaged, the vital nerve endings that terminate in your feet are stimulated, your circulation is improved and your nervous system is balanced.

This unique and magical massage focuses 100% on your feet and lower limbs (as far as your knees) and places particular emphasis on stimulating your marma points, reflex points and energy centres (or chakras), through specific movements with the Kansa bowl, and simple massage techniques.

This treatment helps draw out excess heat, leaving your entire body cool, refreshed and relaxed. The use of clarified organic butter (ghee) is key to the magic (but rest assured, we can use organic coconut oil if you are vegan). The ultimate uplift comes from the addition of appropriate essential oils, either to match your body type or simply to make you feel like a regular human again.

This beautiful, soothing massage is not only deeply relaxing, but also highly revitalising for tired feet and legs and so while it is good for everyone (of all ages), it is particularly helpful to anyone spending long hours on their feet.

And since this treatment cools the body down, it reduces inflammation and that makes it very beneficial to women going through the menopause (hot-flush hell!)

SIX great reasons to try Kansa Vatki

(1) The Magical Kansa Wand

The Kansa Foot Massage Wand is crafted in bronze (an alloy of Copper, Zinc and Tin), which is considered to be a healing metal in Ayurveda. (It's why they cast bells in bronze, because it transmits energy and vibration.)

Together, these metals are renowned for their detoxifying, cooling and healing properties.

COPPER — Fights inflammation to diminish pain whilst boosting collagen production, promotes skin elasticity; enhances the skin’s firmness and texture

TIN — Soothes the effects of sleep deprivation, migraine, improve digestion and improves absorption of the oils used. Tin improves your skin’s resilience and reduces the dryness of your feet, helping to heal cracked feet and soften the soles (which helps maintain moisture balance and supports overall skin health).

ZINC — Thought to support the proper functioning of the immune system and digestion.

(2) Boosts relaxation & reduces stress

The bronze bowl and gentle hands-on massage stimulates essential reflex areas and brings profound relaxation to the nervous system, reducing both stress and anxiety levels. (So it's great for jittery teens at exam time!)

The soft massage applied to both feet eases joint and tendon fatigue whilst bringing deep relaxation, and synching you with the bio-rhythms of the day so you are totally ready for sleep. (The organic ghee or coconut oil used is also very soothing and brings emotional balance.) So regular massage helps you become more resilient to the stresses and strains of daily life, whilst reducing brain fog and boosting mental clarity.

(3) Improves blood & lymphatic circulation

The bronze Kansa bowl (or wand) is applied to your feet and calves to boost blood circulation and stimulates lymphatic drainage in your feet and lower legs. This helps improve tissue oxygenation and nutrient delivery, whilst supporting the body's waste removal systems.

Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage helps minimise swelling and oedema in your feet and ankles, whilst relaxing your muscles – and this brings about a refreshed and “lighter” feeling in your legs.

And if Sarah-Jane uses ghee in your massage, the natural fatty acids ghee contains nourish your skin, as well as support circulation (which helps you shake off that sense of numbness or coldness in your feet.)

(4) Detoxifies & balances your energy

Through this technique, the Kansa bowl or wand acts as a detoxifying agent, helping extract harmful substances and excess heat from the body. Through optimal detoxification and enhanced elimination, the body improves its energy flow and can return to balance by reducing both excessive Pitta (heat) and Vata (nervous energy).

The combination of ghee and massage helps settle Vata while supporting body harmony, leaving you with increased energy and a beautiful sense of wellbeing.

Additionally, your body’s natural cleansing processes are supported through regular Kansa Vatki massage, which also helps you maintain daily balance. And since the toxins holed up in your lymph nodes are acidic, when released you feel “lighter”, have better blood circulation, and that's a recipe for a better sleep and reduced stress.

(5) Softens & nourishes the skin

We all ignore our feet, and rarely really treat them well. (That's a BIG mistake because in Ayurveda, it’s said we age from our feet up!) Thus many people have dryness or roughness on their feet, and cracked skin on their heels.

The good news is that the fatty acids and vitamins in the ghee moisturise your skin naturally, making it softer and more elastic and helping it to heal faster. Additionally, the massage improves the absorption rate of these fatty acids, which results in softer and smoother soles.

So regular Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf massage with Ghee helps combat dryness, defends your feet from issues or infection – and improves foot comfort and health by strengthening the skin’s protective abilities.

(6) Promotes better sleep

Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf Massage synchronises your mind and body to the rhythms of the day, and has a calming effect on your mind and body, which helps you naturally prepare for sleep (and then helps you stay asleep).

The combination of toxin elimination, a relaxed nervous system and improved circulation creates the perfect storm for a restful night's sleep. (And who doesn’t want that?)

And Kansa Vatki also helps reduce those digestive processes that gripe and cause gas or bloating (which disrupts your capacity for deep sleep).

Better sleep helps you maintain both physical and mental health, and improves your overall energy level.

So regular Kansa Vatki Ayurvedic Foot & Calf Massage will help you fall asleep faster, give you a better quality of rest, improve flexibility and mobility in your feet, ankles, muscles and tendons – all whilst boosting your overall health and sense of well-being naturally. Nice!

Why Ghee?

Feel the wheeeee with Ghee

Whether it is ingested or simply slavered on your body, using Ghee isn’t like any other experience. It's more subtle than a stimulant — you could say more like switching on lubrication for both the body and mind.

  • ENERGETIC FEEL:  On eating Ghee in a conscious way (warm, on an empty stomach, or with herbs), you will likely feel a gentle grounding at first, but soon that will feel like calm inner brightness. Ghee creates a sense of smoothness — your joints, digestion, even your thoughts feel “oiled.”
  • BODY RESPONSE:  Youll feel a warmth in your stomach, have smoother digestion, and less irritation or “dryness” inside. Many describe it as if the body sighs in relief.
  • MIND EFFECT:  You'll get the mental clarity and focus you need but withou the sharp edges — a “quiet fuel” feeling. Unlike coffee or stimulants, Ghee makes you feel steady and as if your energy is long-lasting, as if your energy has more depth and no rush.
  • AT A DEEPER, SUBTLE LEVEL:  In Ayurveda, Ghee is said to carry subtle essences (ojas) into your tissues and even across the blood-brain barrier — so with long use people report memory sharpness, emotional stability, and deeper meditative states.

Where something like Shilajit feels like a “power surge of minerals”, Ghee feels like a silken river that lets energy flow smoothly without friction. Nice!

How did Sarah-Jane stumble upon Kansa Vatki?

Sad times, but happy accidents

Sarah-Jane discovered therapeutic foot massage quite by chance. She says: “As a long-time carer for my Mum, I was often at my wits end trying to settle her when fear, anxiety, grief or rage flared out of control.

“Without much to go on, I had a pot of Vitamin E cream, and knew her mood could be lifted by Lavender essential oil — and with an ayurvedic blend for Vata imbalance (Sweet Orange, Geranium, Basil, Fennel and Marjoram). So in for a penny, I mixed a few drops of Vata oil into the cream and gently massaged her hands and feet to ease her daily Alzheimer’s melt downs, or when she woke in the night, upset by hallucinations.

“Well, as amateurish as my technique was back then, the oils and the foot massage really helped bring Mum back from the brink — especially when Mum was in hospital with a broken hip, parked in the dementia ward but with sufficient capacitystill to understand what was coming her way as her illness progressed…

“And the Vata oil would also help her drift off to sleep easily, so that she didn’t need any other medication.”

So buoyed up by this, and with a desire to help others regain their balance and emotional equilibrium too, Sarah-Jane started looking for courses so that she could formalise her experience — and as is often the way, the minute you start googling, Facebook randomly serves up an advert for a Kansa Vatki training course which she booked herself onto PDQ, and the rest is history.

Sarah-Jane completed the course, gained an anatomy and physiology qualification (as well as a CPD-certified Aromatherapy Diploma, where she got a Distinction) – and off she went.

She says: “This really is a lovely treatment. It soothes, calms, stimulates, invigorates and blisses you out, almost all at the same time. But it doesn’t just affect your physical body (joints, tendons, muscles etc), but brings balance to your mental, emotional and – if you’re in tune with it – your spiritual body too.

“You may just feel relaxed, or you may feel a burden being lifted off you. You may see colours, or have inspiring visions. You may simply get the ability to wiggle your toes again and release the swelling in your feet that makes them feel like blocks of wood. But whatever else, you will (without doubt!), have the best night’s sleep you’ve had since you were a kid!”
