Bloggy Ramblings from the Path

It might seem random to be thinking of Santa Claus when everyone else is thinking about Hot X Buns and the Easter Bunny, but there is method in my madness. (Well, that and the fact that as of Easter Sunday, there are only 263 shopping days left till Christmas…)

According to all traditions and Mystery Schools, the human body is divided into three major parts, mirroring the Universe which comprises three worlds: Heaven, Earth, and Hell. 

• HEAVEN (aka the domed temple on the top of the mountain) is the superior world and somewhere we’ve been taught is above us. After all, nearly every religion teaches that God dwells in the heavens, hence whey we raise our hands in prayer and lift our eyes to the heavens when we ask for things. Indeed, some nations he is supposed to dwell on the tops of mountains, which are the highest places of the world. Wherever “he” is and whatever “he” is, he dwells in a rarified place above, overshadowing the world below.
• Sandwiched between Heaven and Hell is EARTH, a place the Scandinavian races call “Midgard”, or Middle Garden. Suspended in space, Earth is the dwelling place for Man and all other beings who call this place home. Earth is the only place in the universe with green pastures, clear waters. It is connected to Heaven by the antaḥkaraṇa (rainbow) bridge down which God (and Goddess) descend. (FYI: This gets muddied by the fact that WE are the Gods who are descending to us as Men, but let’s not go there today...)

· Underlying everything, all darkness, flames, torment and suffering, is HEL, which we have come to know as the world of HELL. Earth’s volcanic craters and fissures connect it with Hell, the dastardly land of darkness, damnation and oblivion. And in the same way we think of Heaven as “above” or “up”, we have come to think of Hell as “below” or “down”, while Earth is the neutral buffer zone between them. In Hell the forces of evil dwell – those powers “hell” bent on bringing sorrow to the Earth and overthrowing the dominion of “God” in heaven.
